Lead Pastor Transition

This page is the best place to find updates and information about the pastoral transition at Journey and upcoming events regarding this process.

An Update from the Advisory Team

Our Search Team has spent countless hours reviewing resumes and many hours interviewing multiple quality candidates and then narrowing this down to our top three candidates. After much prayer and discussion, multiple hours of interviews with Pastor Joel and Christie Gorveatte, and speaking with numerous references, we felt confident that Pastor Joel is the person God has led us, as a Search Team, to unanimously recommend to the Journey Advisory Team.

Pastor Joel also had the opportunity to meet with members of our staff, giving us even more confidence in this recommendation. our Advisory Team conducted a final interview with Pastor Joel and Christie Gorveatte. We also listened to the recorded interviews the Search Team conducted and were fully briefed by members of the Search Team and, with unanimous agreement, we are thrilled to present Pastor Joel to you, the congregation of Journey Church, as our recommended candidate for Lead Pastor. Below you can find the full announcement shared on July 20, details about the Gorveatte family, and information on the Lead Pastor Candidate Weekend on August 1 & 3.

The Gorveattes

Pastor Joel is no stranger to Journey Church. Joel, along with his siblings and parents, was part of the launch team of Journey in 2007. In 2010, his family moved out of state and then Joel returned in 2016 to come on staff in a part-time capacity. Joel came on staff full-time in the summer of 2017. Since then, Joel has served leading worship & creative arts, helping to launch the Middleville Location, and, most recently, as Worship & Executive Pastor overseeing staff, developing worship leaders, and serving in other areas of leadership like preaching, operations, and finance.

He and his wife, Christie, have been married for 7 years and they partnering together to parent Thea (2 years) and Samuel (2 months). Joel and Christie feel a profound sense of calling to Journey and are expectant for the opportunity to serve and lead in this new capacity.
