Journey is located in West Michigan, in Caledonia at Duncan Lake Middle School.

∇ Jon Allen was an effective executive pastor at a great church in Roanoke, VA with no good reason to leave such a wonderful environment other than a small thought in the back of his head that church planting would be cool. But one year during the worship segment of a huge leadership conference, a small but dangerous thought occurred to him.
Maybe church COULD be just a little bit different…

Jon began to pray and journal about what this new kind of church could be like. Five years and seven hundred miles later, flipping through his prayer journal is like reading a ficitonal story that has come true. The names and the places have now been filled in, and a dream is becoming reality.

Upon moving to Caledonia, the Allen family soon found that God had been placing the same dream in the hearts of many others. We dream of a place that will make a deep and lasting impact in the Grand Rapids area and beyond. We dream of a place where people find God, not religion.

When all of these attributes mesh together to form a remarkable and developing group of people, we dream about what a difference this group could make for the Kingdom in a place like Caledonia. We dream about impacting schools as we encourage teachers and begin reaching them. We dream about seeing neighborhoods changed as families are transformed. We dream about the change in people’s interaction with one another when more and more people operate out of ‘love first’ hearts.

∇ Journey Church launched on October 7, 2007 with a core team of about 60 people. We had 158 show up for that first Gathering in the cafeteria of Caledonia’s Duncan Lake Middle School. As we settled into a weekly “routine,” we found ourselves averaging in the 70’s and 80’s for weekly attendance. After a year of serving our community and showing God’s love, we are well over 100 in attendance and ready for 2 weekend Gatherings. Most importantly, we’ve seen people’s lives changed all across the board as they learn to put more and more of their trust in Jesus Christ. Exciting things are always on the horizon as we continue to do what we know God is calling us to.
